Embodied Structures
18 02 22 – 26 02 22

The visual for CIVA 2022 “Embodied Structures” composes itself as a negative space that is carved and formed by bodies navigating, intersecting and interacting with each other in time and space inside of a given volume without visible borders. The emerging aggregation of temporary defined constructs enables the invisible bodies to build up captivating and ever changing spaces and structures for conviviality and dialogue in an abstract realm. Upon these depictions the space is re-imagined – surfacing artefacts and in between-pixel details – by an AI denoising function adding a computer generated layer atop of our perception and control.

Titled “Embodied Structures,” the second edition of Vienna’s media art festival is devoted to the body and its multiple and ever-changing identities. After the recent years’ global preoccupation with the virtual, in 2022 we focus on our contemporary hybrid reality and its repercussions for diverse bodies in various branches of our lives. Presenting artists and researchers from all different kinds of fields, we aim to create a forum that both comprehends the body as a political field between the analog and the digital, and opens up a discussion on whether “internalized structures” can and must be “unlearned.”

The second edition will take place from February 18 to 26, 2022, at Belvedere 21, Stadtkino Wien, Volkstheater, and online.
